My name is Jay Yoo and I am a software engineer in the NYC area looking for a fulltime position as a Developer. My prior experience is as a Backend Web developer, working primarily on web applications and databases, but I have thus developed two seperate games independently and am looking to break into the game dev space.
A couple months ago, I decided to pivot from my current field of web development and go into something that had infinitely interested me - game development. Since then (around late Feb 2023), I have worked tirelessly to learn as much as possible, to broaden & refine my skills as an engineer to fit my goal. Although my background may not be in game development specifically, I believe my effective skills as an engineer and problem solver are what facilitate my creative visions; this background has also aided me tremendously in learning new systems and coding languages.
Below are my games, other projects, resume, and contact information. I would love to discuss any possible positions that suit my experience, both Backend and Game dev!
B.S.E in Computer Science, Experience in coding applications using C, C#, C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, and Golang.
Background in design + development of APIs & web applications; Expierenced with Django, Flask, React.
Experienced in developing with both the Unity and Godot game engines, as well as basic animation/rigging using Blender.
Familiar with designing & maintaining databases for web applications. Expierenced in MySQL, Postman, PostgreSQL
Previous experience working with machine learning algorithms & neural networks; Familiar with Tensorflow, OpenCV, PyTorch.
Proficient with the Adobe Creative suite, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
Created with the Unity engine. What started off as a personal project to learn some basic C# quickly turned into what is Doomdrop today. I used the 4 month development time of Doomdrop to learn about how systems in the Unity engine work, as well as building up new general skills on areas of game design I had never touched on before, such as AI, audio, and animation. While the initial vision for the game was much larger and I had to continually whittle down the scope of the project, I hope that this smaller-scaled project with an emphasis on player movement and gunplay is both a good foundation for the rest of planned game, as well as a good representation of my skills as a game developer! (Current work in progress)
Coded in Godot & GDScript. Inspired heavily by Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Melee, Hack & Smash was a GameJam project that was born from the idea that not all single player modes in fighting games had to be boring, second-thought additions to these titles. With the goal to eventually turn the game into a rogue-lite 3v3 team-fighter, this small Demo showcases the basic combat system of the main game, albiet with only one placeholder character. I do hope to one day return and finish this project, when more time/resources are at my disposal.
Developed a floorplan building web-application to streamline the planning and visualization process for both Solum employees and their clients. Assisted in the overhaul of existing website and database infrastructure. Designed to be integrated with preexisting electronic tag data.
Launched several web applications as part of the Ruckus Development team, building REST API infrastructures as well as initializing and maintaining databases. Primary responsibilites included the design, implementation, testing, and integration of new APIs and feature sets for web applications.
Selected as one of ten for Gener8tor's Venture Resident program, getting to meet weekly with startup founders and venture capitalists from various industries, and ideating potential startups on a weekly basis with an emphasis on prototyping, collaborating, and learning.
B.S.E in computer science. Relevant coursework: Data Structures and Algorithms, Web Systems, Database Management, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Mobile App Development, Cyber Security
Developed applications to automate and optimize various security, diagnostic, and audit tasks for Samsung cloud-service servers, as well as assisting in the design of an efficient and secure end user Desktop-as-a-service architecture
I am open to hearing about new opportunities and open positions for Game development/backend engineering positions! Please contact me using LinkedIn or my email and I will get back to you ass soon as I can!
